Banditry has been a menace ravaging the country for some time now. Residents of the northwestern region which is the epicenter of this scourge have been at the mercy of these evil men who attack without remorse.
Recently, religious institutions have been their main target - mosques and churches are not left out in their incessant attacks. A recent report revealed how these unscrupulous elements attacked a Baptist Church in Kakum Daji, Chikun local government area of Kaduna state, leaving 2 dead and abducting several others. Another report also revealed how an attack on a mosque in Niger State by bandits led to the death of about 18 worshippers. Additionally, several Muslim and Christain clerics have been abducted by bandits in the past.
The recent trend of attacking religious institutions by bandits shows that they have no respect for God. Recall that these evil men claim to profess Islam but have not shown any sign of being Muslims. According to Koran 4:29, it says ' ..Do not kill yourself ( or one another). Indeed Allah is merciful.' aforementioned verse, these bandits no nothing about 'the religion of peace' and will incur the wrath of the Almighty in the hereafter.
Notwithstanding, the military should provide security at worship centers in trouble spots to curtail further attacks. Also, the popular belief by some members of the public that bandits are only against a certain religion should be abolished, as their recent activities show that they are nonselective when they want to strike.
